Shostak, Eliezer

Shostak, Eliezer
(1911-2001)
He was born in Poland and immigrated (see ALIYA) to Palestine in 1935. From 1957 to 1959, he studied philosophy and Kabala at Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
He was one of the founders of the Herut Party, from which he resigned in 1966, and subsequently was a member of the La'am right-wing faction of the Likud bloc. First elected on behalf of Herut to the second Knesset in July 1951 and reelected to subsequent Knessets, he served on the Labor, Economics, Public Services and Finance Committees of the Knesset. He also was secretary general of the National Federation of Labor and chairman of the National Health Insurance Fund. He became minister of health in June 1977, serving in that post until 1984.
